Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Orchestra

The Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León was established in 1991 through the initiative of the Junta de Castilla y León, under the direction of Max Bragado Darman, the principal conductor until 1999. The Orchestra then had Salvador Mas its principal guest conductor, and in 2002 has Alejandro Posada was appointed as principal conductor. The orchestra has become one of the most dynamic and innovative ensembles of its kind in Spain, with a classical and contemporary repertoire, appearances in the principal concert venues, and festivals in Spain, and tours to Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and the United States of America. The orchestra has worked with and attracts distinguished conductors and soloists and currently has Vasily Petrenko as it Principal Guest Conductor and its Artist in Residence the violinist Dimitry Sitkovetsky. Recordings by the orchestra include a notable addition to the Naxos Spanish Music series devoted to the orchestral works of Joaquín Rodrigo.
